The Art of Walt Whitman's French in "Song of Myself"

Author:

Abstract

Examines Whitman's use of selective French words in "Song of Myself" to argue that previous critics, including Gay Wilson Allen and Roger Asselineau, may not be giving Whitman "full credit for his use of French"; analyzes Whitman's use of two words in particular, eleves and accoucheur.
