Abstract

Analyzes consistencies and inconsistencies in Whitman's use of punctuation for line endings in the 1855 edition of Leaves of Grass to argue against contentions by critics including Jon Bracker and Malcolm Cowley that Whitman intentionally omitted punctuation from the final line of "Song of Myself."
