Abstract
Details the history of the recovery by the Library of Congress of four of the most important of Whitman's original notebooks (and of his cardboard butterfly), missing since World War II; written by a librarian in the Manuscripts Division of the Library of Congress who was directly involved in the manuscripts' recovery.
