Abstract

Argues that Whitman helped ghostwrite William Swinton's book on language theory, Rambles Among Words, and that "the theory of language Whitman outlines in 'America's Mightiest Inheritance' and in his linguistic notebooks is fully developed" in the final two chapters of Rambles.
