The Marilyn Zurmuehlen Working Papers in Art Education (ISSN: 2326-7070 (Print), 2326-7062 (Online); ISSN-L 2326-7070) publishes essays, scholarly articles, and images of art about the teaching, theory, and praxis of visual art annually. These works come from doctoral students in art education from top programs around the globe and are vetted through a presentation at the National Art Education Association’s annual conference. It is sponsored by the The School of Art and Art History and the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at The University of Iowa. MZWP is the official journal of the Seminar for Research in Art Education, affiliated with the National Art Education Association.

Manuscripts by graduate students are derived from presentation papers at the annual Graduate Research Session, Seminar for Research, the National Art Education Association Conference. Along with these papers are statements from mentors, which establish a context for the student's doctoral research.

Title History

Working Papers in Art Education (2326-8050 (Online); ISSN-L 2326-8050) was founded in 1981 and subsequently renamed the Marilyn Zurmuehlen Working Papers in Art Education after the untimely death of Marilyn Zurmuehlen in November of 1993. Issues 1-11 were published under the earlier title.
