Abstract
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into everyday life has transformed contemporary digital visual culture, sparking debates and creating new challenges for the future of teaching and learning. While AI literacy frameworks emphasize technical competencies and skill sets, they often overlook the sociopolitical dimensions of AI, including issues of power structures and human-machine entanglements. This paper argues that art education can play a crucial role in reconceptualizing AI literacy by fostering critical engagements with evolving visuality co-constructed with AI and embodied understandings of AI through art. Building upon literacy perspectives, this paper introduces the concept of entangled visuality to examine the increasing role of AI in constructing contemporary digital visual culture. Further, it emphasizes the role of embodied art practices in making abstract technological concepts more tangible and accessible. Through examples of experiential AI art projects and critical AI artmaking, the paper examines how art education can cultivate students’ critical awareness of AI’s social and ethical implications.
