About this journal

Dada/Surrealism (ISSN: 0084-9537 (Print) 2372-6725 (Online), ISSN-L 0084-9537) is an interdisciplinary journal publishing critical essays, bibliographies, book reviews, and primary documents on the Dada and Surrealist movements. Submissions are encouraged from scholars in Art History, Literature, Film Studies, Theater Arts, and a variety of other disciplines. We are especially receptive to contributions that use interdisciplinary techniques, reexamine basic concepts, or raise theoretical issues of contemporary interest.

Title History

Dada/Surrealism began publication in 1971 as the journal of the Association for the Study of Dada and Surrealism, an allied organization of the Modern Language Association. Issued in print from 1971 to 1990, number.1 was published by Texas Tech Press, numbers 2-9 were published by Queens College Press under the editorship of Mary Ann Caws, and numbers 10-18 were published at the University of Iowa under the joint editorship of Mary Ann Caws and Rudolf E. Kuenzli.

Dada/Surrealism is now a peer-reviewed, open-access electronic journal sponsored by the Association for the Study of Dada and Surrealism and published by the International Dada Archive, University of Iowa Libraries. The first online issue (number 19) was published in 2013.

The complete contents of numbers 1-18 are listed on this website, but for a variety of reasons, only selected articles are available here as full-text documents. Back issues of the print journal are available for purchase.
