Submission Policies

Who Can Submit

B Sides: FieldWork publishes materials created by students who are currently enrolled or have previously been enrolled in The University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science.

General Submission Rules

By submitting material to B Sides: FieldWork, the author is stipulating that the material has not been previously published, is not currently under review at another journal, and that the material will not be submitted to another journal until the completion of the editorial decision process at B Sides. Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series or an institutional or disciplinary repository does not constitute prior publication. Questions about the submission terms can be addressed by contacting the editors.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any material in which they do not own copyright, to be used in print and electronic media and for ensuring that the appropriate acknowledgments are included in their manuscript. Prior to publication authors must clear the necessary reproduction rights for any images, photos, figures, music, or content credited to a third party that they wish to use , which fall outside of the fair use provisions described in U.S. copyright law. We request that our authors seek nonexclusive, worldwide rights in all formats and media, for one-time use from the rights holder of the material to be used. Upon submission, authors agree that the material does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of third parties.

Formatting Requirements for Initial Submission

There are no formatting requirements for the initial submission. As part of the review process, the editors and authors will format contributions appropriately.

Submissions are requested to be in Chicago notes-bibliography format. Alternatively, APA format is acceptable, especially for information science oriented work in which recent technological developments are emphasized.

Review Policy

All contributions are reviewed by the editors. The editors will work directly with the submitter to provide feedback. Feedback will be given within three weeks of submission. Authors are requested to make necessary changes within two weeks. In addition, we ask that authors whose work is accepted for publication agree to review at least two submissions from other authors.

Rights for Authors

B Sides: Fieldwork asks authors to select a Creative Commons license for their work. Please see the specific terms of the licenses chosen by individual authors. Creative Commons 4.0 CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 License is recommended.

Attribution and Usage Policies

No permission is required from the authors or the publishers for usage compliant with the terms of the Creative Commons license. For any reuse or redistribution of a work, you must also make clear the license terms under which the work was published, in addition to citation of the original authors and source.
