During the spring semester of 2010, as part of my graduate program in English Education, I took a class titled American Comic Book. I took what I learned there, turned around, and immediately applied it to my own teaching. I teach 7th grade language arts and developed a unit on understanding and creating comics, pulling from what I was learning in the class at the University of Iowa, and utilized some other resources including Great Source's Daybook of Critical Reading and Writing, and ideas from other books on using graphic novels as a teaching tool.
