Hardin Library for the Health Sciences

AIDS and Human Immunodeficiency Virus. Through the generosity of the Iowa Site of the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center, Hardin Library received a grant for $2,000 towards the purchase of library materials related to AIDS and HIV disease. Both books and videotapes were purchased with these funds.

Hardin Library Browsing Room. The local student chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the medical honorary society, donated approximately $400 for the purchase of materials for the Hardin Library Browsing Room. AOA worked with Hardin Library staff several years ago in developing the Browsing Room as a public service project. The Browsing Room holds a collection of materials which places the practice of the health sciences in the broader perspective of our human and social environment.

International rural and environmental health. As part of a grant from Pioneer Hi-bred International which has supported the creation of The University of Iowa's Center for International Rural and Environmental Health, $6,000 per year is being provided for the purchase of library materials. This year's funds were spent on journal subscriptions, back-volumes of journals, books, and audiovisuals on this interdisciplinary area.

Journals. In response to a call for donors to "adopt" Music Library journals that might otherwise fall victim to the budget difficulties, two people responded with generous checks that will underwrite several journals for the next three years. The Music Library wishes to thank Professor Emeritus Himie Voxman, former Director of the School of Music, and Dr. Arthur Benton, Professor Emeritus of Psychology/Neurology, for their support.

Recording Studios. Professor Lowell Cross, Head of the Recording Studio in the School of Music, has given to the Music Library a copy of each compact disc that the Studio has engineered and produced during the past two years, the most recent being a disc of works by the late Professor of Music William Hibbard.
