Abstract

DEIRDRE DOUGHERTY explores the relationship between schooling, social identity, and linguistic rights as it relates to migrant and ethnic Mexican schooling in Iowa. Informed by the work of educational theorists who study social identity, race, and schooling, she focuses on the experience of migrant and ethnic Mexican youth as learners in Iowa between 1950 and 1975, specifically attending to how this process looked in eastern Iowa.
